Valentine's Fascinators
With the fascination with Fascinator hats, I wonder if American women will don the latest trending hat style for a romantic night on the town with your sweetie.
While the world watches Kate Middleton and her Royal hat fashions, are real women embracing the head pieces made famous over the last decade in Great Britain?
It’s one thing to see Royalty and celebrities wearing a stylish accessory, it’s something quite different when you expect to see a head-turning headpiece on the streets and in restaurants of Main Street, USA.
Hair accessories described as ‘fascinators’, are typically clips, pins or headbands with attached feathers, flowers, lace, tulle and ‘whimsy’ and are seen everywhere these days gracing the heads of Royalty, celebrities, brides, and women who love a spark of flair on Saturday nights.
Although a stylish and trendy millinery item now, this type of headpiece has been around since at least the 18th century, when large feathered and beaded hair accessories were the height of fashion. The “Roaring ‘20s” more recently reflected the stylishly fun headband with attached feathery whimsy.
Historically a "fascinator" initially meant a lacy, fancy head covering for ladies to wear with their evening clothes, however, the meaning has evolved to encompass the fun, flirty confections we now wear in our hair.
This Valentine’s Day, why not try something completely different and add a bit a “whimsy” to your special evening!

They’ve been the subject of documentaries, feature some of the most interesting store windows in the neighborhood, and have been known to pop up on local TV every now and then.
